European Car Breakdown Cover

European breakdown cover extends the breakdown policy to cover many countries in the European continent; this is ideal if you take driving holidays around Europe or do a lot of travelling for work. Some companies offer European breakdown cover for shorter periods of time such as a week or a fortnight, some even offer single day breakdown cover. While the shorter policies are ideally suited to a holiday there are longer policies available too, including a full year's cover. The list of countries that qualify as part of the European breakdown cover can vary from company to company so it is a good idea to check which countries you'll be covered in when taking out the policy.

Types of European Breakdown Cover Explained...

Some companies offer different types of European breakdown cover to provide some options on visit lengths. There are a few different policies which can cover you for most of the year or just a couple of days, the choice is up to you. These are the most common variations...

Single Trip Breakdown Cover

Single Trip Breakdown Cover is perfect if you're planning a short journey in Europe as you can book European breakdown cover for a week or just a single day. Compared to the potentially large overseas breakdown recovery charges single trip cover is also quite cheap.

Single Trip Group Breakdown Cover

If you're driving a vehicle with between 9 and 15 passengers Single Trip Group Breakdown Cover will recover the vehicle and all the passengers. Single Trip Group Breakdown Cover does not include a towed caravan so if you intend to do so make sure you add the required cover. If you don't have the right cover you will be charged a fee which could total more than the cost of the cover.

Annual Multi-Trip Breakdown Cover

Annual Multi-Trip Breakdown Cover will cover you in any vehicle whenever you visit Europe. Most policy terms state that a single trip cannot exceed more than 90 days but you can make an unlimited number of visits in the year. If you visit Europe multiple times throughout the year this cover is ideal and can work out cheaper than taking out multiple Single Trip Breakdown Cover policies.

Annual Long Stay Breakdown Cover

Annual Long Stay Breakdown Cover is essentially the same policy as the annual multi-trip cover; however, long stay cover enables you to stay in Europe for longer visits of up to 350 days. This is perfect if you're planning on travelling around Europe and staying overseas for a long time, for example a gap year or an extended break.
